Second draw of ‘Pay with Visa and earn’ promo lottery completed

4 June 2020, Baku: A second draw of the promo ‘Pay with Visa and earn’ lottery with the support of the Visa International was held on 15 May 2020 at the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The lottery, the aim of which was to promote cashless payments, covered March and April.

The lottery was held to stimulate the population to use cashless payments, formulate cashless payment habits at economic agents and increase cashless turnover in the economy as part of the Memorandum signed between the Central Bank and Visa International.

Cardholders conducting minimum an AZN5 (five) worth of cashless operation with all types of Visa payment cards issued by Azerbaijani banks, except for corporate and non-identified cards, in POS-terminals of economic agents across the country automatically got the right to participate in the lottery per transaction. Total 300 winners will receive AZN100 (one hundred) each.

Total 867 690 operations with 182 002 payment cards compliant with the conditions of the lottery participated in the first draw in March and 762 029 operations with 159 348 payment cards participated in the second draw in April.

Consequently, in March-April 2019 the number of payment card operations throughout the country reached 17.5 million or AZN977.3M (y/y up by 71% and 39% respectively). The Central Bank will continue promo events to expand cashless payments.
