Information by the Central Bank

18-06-2020

18 June 2020, Baku: As part of the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country, measures are being taken to minimize places of mass gathering and contact of people, as well as related work and processes; the Central Bank also takes appropriate steps to ensure these measures on a regular basis.

The Central Bank appealed to designated banks to extend the validity period of active customers’ expired cards for payment of labor pensions, social benefits, compensations, as well as targeted social aid until 30 September 2020 to manage closeness of citizens in bank branches and departments, as well as in front of ATMs. The designated banks provided the appeal and automatically extended the validity period of relevant payment cards.

At the same time, the Central Bank recommended that banks provide courier delivery of newly issued payment cards to addressees at the request of customers, taking into account technical potential and security requirements of banks.

To note, the Central Bank addressed an appeal to the designated banks in March to extend the validity of these payment cards in connection with the pandemic, and the measures taken reduced bank-customer contacts as much as possible.
