Winners of promo Pay with card, earn with card lottery determined

22 December 2020, Baku: The draw of the promo ‘Pay with card, earn with card’ lottery that covered November and aimed at increasing interest in cashless payments in the society was held at the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 11 December 2020.

The goal of the lottery was to stimulate the population to use digital payments, shape cashless payment habits in economic agents and increase cashless turnover in the economy as part of the ‘State Program on expansion of digital payments in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2018-2020’ approved by Decree#508 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 26 December 2018.

Over the period of the promo lottery cardholders conducting minimum AZN5 (five) worth cashless payments with all types of payment cards issued in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan in POS-terminals of economic agents across the country automatically got the right to participate in the lottery. Total 2 471 829 transactions with 538 429 payment cards compliant with the conditions of the lottery got a chance to win the lottery in November. According to the result of the lottery, cardholders of 899 payment cards received AZN100 worth cashback.

Consequently, in November cashless transactions numbered 11 million throughout the country, while the size reached AZN592 million (y/y up by 61% and 32% respectively). At the same time, the number and size of cashless transactions via POS-terminals y/y increased by 90% and 94% respectively. The number and size of contactless POS-terminal operations y/y increased by 3.6 and 5.5 times respectively.

To note, the ‘Pay with card, win with card’ lottery is the third incentive campaign organized by the Central Bank this year. Contribution of such measures to promotion of cashless payments is reflected in statistics. In the coming years, the Central Bank will continue promo activities to expand cashless payments.
