National stage of European Money Quiz ends

19 March 2021, Baku:  The Central Bank, together with local and international organizations, regularly carries out various activities to increase financial literacy of target groups in the society. Related financial literacy products are focused on key target groups, including children, adolescents, students, teachers, and the the elderly.

 

As one of these events, the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Banks Association participated in the national stage of the European Money Quiz organized by the member countries of the European Banking Federation uniting thirty-two banking associations on March 12, 2021. Due to the conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 final will be held online, as it was last year.

 

The European Money Quiz is held to support students’ financial literacy. Students of the 13-15 age group who take part in the quiz are asked questions on economic topics, such as banking and financial services, banknote issuance and circulation, digital payments and taxes. According to the rules, the national stages of the quiz are held in the participating countries, and the final stage is held in Brussels. The two winners of the national finals will qualify for the European finals.

 

The national stage of the European Money Quiz ended on 17 March 2021. Students of public and private schools aged 13-15, fluent in English, took part in the competition.

 

The first selection round and semifinal of the national stage were held online. 300 people took part in the first stage, 150 of them reached the semifinals. 20 people qualified for the finals.

 

In the finals held at the Central Bank Ulker Ashurova, a student of School No. 3 named after B.Y.Jafarov, Khirdalan city; Nurlan Karibov, a student of the Humanities School-Lyceum;  and Ramiz Ahmadzadeh, a student of the European-Azerbaijani School, took the first, second and third places, respectively. The winners of the first two places will represent Azerbaijan in the final stage of the European Money Quiz.
