Central Bank holds event marking 100th anniversary of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev

5 May 2023, Baku: The Central Bank held a presentation of commemorative coins dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

Speaking at the event, Governor of the Central Bank Taleh Kazimov said that the leadership of Heydar Aliyev was a very important period in the history of Azerbaijani statehood. During the first period of his leadership, foundations of the state sovereignty and economic independence of modern Azerbaijan were laid. Azerbaijan’s national solidarity and social-political stability was restored in a short time under difficult conditions during the next period of Heydar Aliyev's leadership. Thanks to socio-political stability and far-sighted foreign policy, Azerbaijan became an attractive country for the world's biggest investors. In such a difficult situation, the main priority in the economic sphere – macroeconomic stability was restored, inflation and the budget deficit were repeatedly reduced, the exchange rate stabilized, and the manat became the only legal tender in the country. As in other areas, it was a turning point in the establishment and development of the financial-banking system. The banking system was rehabilitated and serious processes of consolidation and restructuring were started. By ensuring financial stability, public confidence in the banking system was restored.

Thanks to all these steps, the goal of a modern state, a strong economy and an inclusive society has already become a reality. The Heydar Aliyev school of statehood will always be the ideological basis for the sustainable development of independent Azerbaijan.

The event continued with a film “Heydar Aliyev – A Life Dedicated to the Motherland and People”.

Then a video about the new coins was presented to the event participants.

T. Kazimov announced the issue of coins dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

He also announced that, for the first time in the history of our country, the Central Bank issued bullion coins made of high quality Azerbaijani gold dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, which will be put into circulation on 10 May 2023.      

To note, adhering to its tradition, the Central Bank also issues commemorative coins to honor the 100th anniversary of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. These coins are designed for special state events.

These commemorative and bullion coins were minted at The Royal Mint of Great Britain to the highest international standards.

The face of the coins depicts the portrait of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev, his signature, the inscription “Heydar Aliyev”, while the back features are the words “Republic of Azerbaijan”, the Coat of Arms, the denomination of the coin and national patterns.

The sale and redemption of bullion coins issued for the first time in our country will be carried out by the Central Bank. Additional information will be made available to the public.

In accordance with international practice, these coins are made of high quality gold in order to be used as an instrument of long-term investment and savings of the population, and are produced and circulated on demand without restrictions on the issue limit.

Bullion coins are issued weighing 1 Oz (31.1 gr), 1/2 Oz (15.55 gr), 1/4 Oz (7.78 gr), 1/10 oz (3.11 gr).

The commemorative and bullion coins are legal tender in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan at face value.
