Central Bank is conducting survey on new generation national currency concept

01-08-2024

1 August 2024, Baku:   The Central Bank is conducting a public survey to determine the motif and sub-motifs for denominations of the new generation national currency. This initiative aims to update our currency to better reflect national values, historical and cultural heritage, and align with modern priorities and challenges.

Citizens participating in the online survey can share their ideas on design themes with the Central Bank, which are expected to represent Azerbaijan’s national identity, vision for the future, history, and strategic goals.

In international practice, banknotes are renewed, and a new generation of national banknotes is created every 10-15 years. This practice ensures that, the currency reflects the evolving economic and political landscape, the future development strategy of the society, challenges arising from new economic and political realities.

The liberation of our lands from occupation and the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity have elevated our country to a new level politically and economically, both in the region and globally. This, in turn, brought up the need to align our national currency, the core attribute of statehood, to the new era and challenges.

Note that, the current Azerbaijani currency – the manat was put into circulation in 2006, under the theme ‘Independent Azerbaijan’. Within this concept, each denomination of our banknotes is dedicated to sub-motifs separately. In 2018, the Central Bank issued a 200-manat banknote within the framework of the ‘Independent Azerbaijan’ concept (for more information, https://www.cbar.az/moneymarks/banknotes/index?category=1&language=en).

To participate in the survey, download the questionnaire from the link, fill it out, and email it to sorgu_konsepsiya@cbar.az by October 1, 2024.

We encourage all citizens to take part in this survey and contribute to the evolution of our national currency, enhancing the representation of Azerbaijan's rich heritage.
