ABA holds event dedicated to its 35th anniversary

14 April 2025, Baku: An event was held to mark the 35th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Banks Association (ABA) and the 25th anniversary of its subsidiary, the Azerbaijan Banking and Finance Training Center. The event was opened by Natig Amirov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Department of Economic Policy and Industrial Issues of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Taleh Kazimov, Governor of the Central Bank, Alpaslan Çakar, Chairman of the Board of the Banks Association of Türkiye, and Zakir Nuriyev, President of ABA. In their remarks, speakers reflected on the development phases of the financial-banking sector and its major achievements.

 

Taleh Kazimov, Governor of the Central Bank underscored that the purposeful policy initiated by Heydar Aliyev, the National Leader and successfully continued under the leadership of the Honorable President Mr. Ilham Aliyev yielded development and strong momentum across all areas of independent Azerbaijan. Highlighting the progress of the banking sector in recent years, he noted significant improvements in the sector’s stability and its capacity to withstand potential shocks and pointed to enhanced access to financial resources for businesses.

 

Addressing the topic of financial inclusion, Governor Kazimov recognized ABA’s vital role in advancing related initiatives. He further noted that the cooperation between the Central Bank and ABA has been instrumental in fostering innovation and modernizing the financial sector.

 

He further emphasized that effective cooperation among sector participants is essential to continued progress: “Market players no longer operate in isolation but work as a team while maintaining healthy competition. I express my sincere gratitude to ABA and the bank managers for this synergy.”

 

The Governor expressed his deep appreciation to Honorable President Mr Ilham Aliyev for fostering an enabling environment that supports the sustainable development of the financial sector.

 

During the event, attention was also drawn to the evolution of the institution originally established as the Bank Training Center, which now operates as the Azerbaijan Bank and Financial Training Center. It was highlighted that the Center has made significant contributions not only to the banking sector but also to the broader financial industry by supporting the professional development of specialists and enhancing the knowledge and skills of sector employees.

 

The landmark event brought together senior government officials, leaders of the financial industry, and representatives of international associations and partner organizations that cooperate with ABA.
