Taxonomy Roadmap Initiative to Advance Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Interoperability
13-11-2025
13 November 2025, Baku: The Roadmap for Advancing Interoperability and Comparability of Sustainable Finance Taxonomies (Taxonomy Roadmap Initiative), in collaboration with the Sustainable Business COP (SB COP) and the International Development Finance Club (IDFC), will host a high-level event during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) titled “From Baku to Belém: Advancing Taxonomy Interoperability to Catalyse Private Capital Mobilization.”
The need to mobilize finance for climate and sustainability goals has become increasingly urgent. Building on the outcomes of COP29—which set a New Collective Quantified Goal to mobilize at least USD 1.3 trillion per year by 2035 from public, private, and alternative sources, with a focus on emerging markets and developing economies—this event will provide a platform for global dialogue on aligning sustainable finance taxonomies to enhance transparency, comparability, and cross-border investment.
The session will convene leaders from governments, development finance institutions, and the private sector to explore practical solutions for scaling private capital mobilization through enhanced interoperability of sustainable finance taxonomies. By fostering common language and shared standards, the initiative aims to reduce fragmentation, promote innovation, and direct capital toward credible and impactful climate investments.
Through this session and other COP30 events, the Taxonomy Roadmap Initiative will present the following key initiatives and solutions to deliver on its mission:
1. Taxonomy Roadmap Initiative Progress Report: This report provides an analytical overview of global trends, progress, and best practices in the development and interoperability of sustainable finance taxonomies. It details the progress of the Taxonomy Roadmap Initiative and developments across the broader taxonomy landscape.
2. Principles for Taxonomy Interoperability: This set of high-level principles is designed to guide taxonomy developers and policymakers in promoting interoperability and comparability across jurisdictions. The principles aim to strengthen efforts to foster interoperability at both the development and implementation phases, supporting the practical application of the Taxonomy Roadmap.
3. Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Mapper: A global public-good digital tool that enables users to compare, navigate, and analyse sustainable finance taxonomies across jurisdictions. The Mapper supports interoperability, transparency, and informed decision-making by mapping taxonomy criteria, structures, and objectives in a consistent and accessible format.
4. Website for the Taxonomy Roadmap Initiative: A dedicated online platform providing stakeholders with access to insights, resources, and tools for effective taxonomy implementation and coordination. The platform will share roadmap updates, facilitate partner engagement, and foster collaboration among key stakeholders globally.
This event underscores the growing momentum for international cooperation to strengthen the sustainable finance architecture. By advancing the interoperability and comparability of taxonomies, the initiative seeks to catalyse private capital flows and support an inclusive and just transition toward a low-carbon global economy.
