31-07-2026

31 July 2026, Baku: Azerbaijan's Central Bank convened a roundtable on digital transformation and the adoption of artificial intelligence in the banking sector, chaired by Deputy Governor Vusal Khalilov.

The Deputy Governor highlighted the importance of consistently implementing the country's digital transformation and AI agenda in the banking sector. Khalilov said banks should align their digital initiatives with priorities outlined at a February government meeting on ‘Azerbaijan's New Digital Architecture,’ chaired by President Ilham Aliyev, and at the inaugural meeting of the Digital Development Council in June, chaired by First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva.

Participants, including senior banking executives responsible for digital transformation at commercial banks, discussed the use of artificial intelligence in financial services and the main challenges institutions face in accelerating digitalization. They also exchanged views on how the Central Bank and other government agencies could support the sector's digital transition.

The Central Bank said the recommendations and proposals raised during the discussions will be considered as it shapes the banking sector's future digital development strategy.
