3 more universities join Azerbaijan smart student card project

10 September 2020, Baku: 3 more universities – the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan State Marine Academy and Baku branch of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov joined the ‘Azerbaijan smart student card’ project supported by the Central Bank, the Ministry of Education, MasterCard International and the International Bank of Azerbaijan OJSC as part of the implementation of actions specified in the ‘State Program on expansion of digital payments in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2018-2020’ approved by Decree#508 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan approved on 26 September 2018.

 

The ‘Azerbaijan smart student card’ will both act as an identification document for students while they study and  allow them to benefit from payment services, as well as receive scholarships and make cashless payments within and beyond the country. Parents living in rural areas will be able to easily send funds to their children with this card. During cashless payments made via the innovative card product students will both benefit from cashback and other dedicated campaigns and use the cards to access universities, libraries and reading rooms. The opportunities of the card will be expanded in future to be used in public transport and other service areas. The use of these cards will contribute to formation of the new generation with modern payment culture and development of the digital payment ecosystem in the country.

 

In light of the quarantine announced in the country a limited number of students from the above universities received their cards, all students will receive the ‘Azerbaijan smart student card’ within the shortest timeframe after the new academic year starts.

 

We would like to inform you that within the framework of the ‘Azerbaijan Smart Student Card’ project, students studying at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics, the Baku Engineering University and the Baku State University have been provided with the Azerbaijan Education Cards  with payment functionality and this project is planned to cover all educational institutions of the country.
